Flamin’ Crows to take wing

NT News - Motoring - - CARS GUIDE -

AUSTRALIAN Blues Awards finalists the Flamin’ Crows are set to rev up the Darwin 4WD, Caravan & Outback Camping Expo, with performances on both days of the Expo.

Born from the stages of Australia’s south-west, the Flamin’ Crows incorporate elements from the acoustic, slide and electric blues spectrum and have developed a complex repertoire of driving original blues music and toetapping adapted classics.

In a recent purple patch, the Flamin’ Crows were awarded a ‘‘wildcard’’ by the Blues at Bridgetown Committee following a stellar performance at their volunteers’ celebration which saw the band perform on the main stage at this year’s 20th Anniversary of Blues at Bridgetown.

The band has also been selected to perform at the Broadbeach Blues Festival on the Gold Coast and were finalists in Best New Talent category of the Australian Blues Awards for 2013, securing their position on the bill for the Australian Blues Festival 2014.

The Flamin’ Crows have pricked the ears of many traditional and modern blues fans and are set to light a wild fire across the Australian blues music scene.

It will continue when the trio land on stage at the Darwin 4WD Expo at 5pm today and 4pm Sunday with their up-tempo dynamic show featuring material from their debut original album Pie in the Sky.

Since releasing the album in October last year, the Tex- an blues-styled trio is receiving radio play and a positive response to both the album and their raw, edgy live performances.

‘‘We wanted to push the boundaries of Australian blues music and we wound up in some interesting and unchartered territories,’’ said bass guitarist Carl Holroyd.

Featuring the silky swing of Yugon Chobanoff on the drums and the majesty of Carl Holroyd on bass guitar, the Flamin’ Crows rhythm section is rock solid and has an air-tight quality that is suffocatingly good.

Together Chob and Carl fuel the fire of Al Rogers’ blistering guitar and soulful vocal performances.

‘‘We are really looking forward to playing in Darwin at the Expo, we know it is going to be a great experience.’’

‘‘We will be giving it everything we got and we’re set for a huge event,’’ Holroyd said.

The band will be available to sign albums after the show.
