XTerrain Tamer’s 4WD personality Allan Gray is heading up to Darwin for the Caravan & Outback Camping Expo at the Winnellie showgrounds this weekend.

As the head mechanic at Terrain Tamer, and one of the most experienced in the country, Allan started his career with 4WDs at Thiess, where he worked on the first Land Cruiser ever to be brought into Australia for the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme.

Al has become a bit of a household name in the 4WD industry over the past few years through his Ask Allan and The Project DVD segments, as well as his most recent series, Junior Ask Allan, which sees him take on the challenge of passing his encyclopaedic mechanical knowledge on to the next generation of enthusiasts. A big fan of the top end, Allan can’t wait to get back to Darwin, where he has been a regular at 4WD events since he started the Ask Allan competition three years ago.

‘‘I learned more on my first visit up here a few years ago than I had in years’’ Allan says.

‘‘There are some rugged and hot conditions up around Darwin and the NT, and the drivers up there are so enthusiastic.

‘‘They want to learn how to work on their own vehicles and share their own knowledge as well.’’

To speak to Allan, visit the Terrain Tamer stand number 38, at the Darwin Caravan & Outback Camping expo today and tomorrow.
