Budget rebuked again
THE Property Council of Australia NT has added to the criticism of Darwin Council’s draft budget, saying there should be more funding dedicated to improving the CBD.
The development lobby’s NT executive director Ruth Palmer said the council could have committed new funding or chosen to waive fees and charges on businesses operating within the CBD.
“The City of Darwin needs to reconsider their decision to not commit any new funding for the city,” she said.
Darwin Council’s draft budget, handed down on Tuesday, saw a freeze on nearly all fees and charges levied by the council, and a modest $29 increase in rates for the typical household, but saw no new dedicated funding put towards activating the CBD.
