Stars return to strengthen Thunder for Sharks
NT THUNDER regains the services of tall timber Hugo Drogemuller, star defender Justin Beugelaar and speedy small Jake Roe-Duggan for today’s NEAFL away clash against Southport at Fankhauser Reserve.
Roe-Duggan, who first played for the Thunder in 2015, returns after a year off, while Drogemuller returns from family commitments, and Beugelaar from suspension.
Making way for the three inclusions is Jonathan Peris (hamstring) and Michael Coombes (concussion), with Ankin Abbott and Scott McLeod to travel as the Thunder’s emergencies.
Coach Andrew Hodges said his team was looking to continue its good form after an impressive 30-point win over Gold Coast last week.
The Thunder is fifth on the ladder with three wins and three losses, while the Sharks are last with one victory.
“We are still looking to play a full four quarters, which we need to do if we want to challenge top-five sides,” Hodges said.
“We executed a lot better (against the Suns) than what we had been.
“Our intensity and commitment on the football was at the level it needs to be.
“The level of pressure we applied to the opposition was what we’re after and we’re just looking to try and do that consistently week-in, week-out.”
On Southport, the coach said the challenge would be focusing on getting an important win away from home.
“Southport are a very good side,” he said. “We always have very good matches against them and any away game is always a very big challenge no matter who you play.
“So we’re definitely going to have to be on our game.”
