Pedes­trian still crit­i­cal in Dar­win

THE 42-year-old man who was hit by a car on the Stu­art Hwy on Thurs­day re­mains in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion at the Royal Dar­win Hos­pi­tal.

The man, who the NT News un­der­stands was un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol at the time of the ac­ci­dent, stepped out in front of a black Hyundai Elantra at about 2.30 on Thurs­day af­ter­noon, out­side the new Gate­way Shop­ping Cen­tre.

The pedes­trian was thrown on to the bon­net of the car, smash­ing the wind­screen.

The driver of the car was un­in­jured and was as­sist­ing po­lice with their in­quiries.

St John Am­bu­lance raced to the Yar­ra­wonga scene and trans­ported the pedes­trian to the RDH.

He was still un­der­go­ing med­i­cal as­sess­ments more than six hours af­ter ar­riv­ing at the hos­pi­tal.

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing to call for wit­nesses to the crash.
