Pedestrian still critical in Darwin
THE 42-year-old man who was hit by a car on the Stuart Hwy on Thursday remains in a critical condition at the Royal Darwin Hospital.
The man, who the NT News understands was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, stepped out in front of a black Hyundai Elantra at about 2.30 on Thursday afternoon, outside the new Gateway Shopping Centre.
The pedestrian was thrown on to the bonnet of the car, smashing the windscreen.
The driver of the car was uninjured and was assisting police with their inquiries.
St John Ambulance raced to the Yarrawonga scene and transported the pedestrian to the RDH.
He was still undergoing medical assessments more than six hours after arriving at the hospital.
