NLC’s native title fears
PROPOSED changes to the Pastoral Land Act would stop indigenous groups carrying out their native title rights, the Northern Land Council says.
NLC chairman Samuel Bush-Blanasi said the proposed amendments would disadvantage traditional owners.
“It needs to be remembered that pastoral lessees do not own the land and do not have a right of exclusive possession.”
The NLC is lobbying the Government for a legal right to give native title holders a say in the grant of non-pastoral use permits or subleases.
