Investment need in East Timor
EAST TIMOR Prime Minister Dr Mari Alkatiri has stressed the need for private sector investment to grow the country’s economy.
Opening the 2nd Timor Leste International Investment Forum, Dr Alkatiri talked of the significant investment opportunities.
A large contingent of Northern Territory business representatives are in Dili for the forum this week.
Chamber of Commerce NT Deputy chief executive Brian O’Gallagher said the chamber was pleased to sponsor this forum.
“The Chamber actively promoted the opportunity for Timorese VET students to gain Australian accredited hospitality training in the Territory as a way of strengthening the local Timorese tourism industry,” he said.
This year’s forum attracted 80 delegates from across the neighbouring Asian region.
The forum included updates from political and industry leaders on business opportunities associated with new port and road projects; hotel and tourism developments; oil and gas and mineral projects as well as service and training opportunities.
Speakers included Australian Ambassador Peter Doyle and Alan Jape who is the Group Managing Director, of Jape Group International which operates a hotel in Dili.
