In­vest­ment need in East Ti­mor

EAST TI­MOR Prime Min­is­ter Dr Mari Alkatiri has stressed the need for pri­vate sec­tor in­vest­ment to grow the coun­try’s econ­omy.

Open­ing the 2nd Ti­mor Leste International In­vest­ment Fo­rum, Dr Alkatiri talked of the sig­nif­i­cant in­vest­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties.

A large con­tin­gent of North­ern Ter­ri­tory business rep­re­sen­ta­tives are in Dili for the fo­rum this week.

Cham­ber of Com­merce NT Deputy chief ex­ec­u­tive Brian O’Gal­lagher said the cham­ber was pleased to spon­sor this fo­rum.

“The Cham­ber ac­tively pro­moted the op­por­tu­nity for Ti­morese VET stu­dents to gain Aus­tralian ac­cred­ited hos­pi­tal­ity train­ing in the Ter­ri­tory as a way of strength­en­ing the lo­cal Ti­morese tourism in­dus­try,” he said.

This year’s fo­rum at­tracted 80 del­e­gates from across the neigh­bour­ing Asian re­gion.

The fo­rum in­cluded up­dates from po­lit­i­cal and in­dus­try lead­ers on business op­por­tu­ni­ties associated with new port and road projects; ho­tel and tourism de­vel­op­ments; oil and gas and min­eral projects as well as ser­vice and train­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties.

Speak­ers in­cluded Aus­tralian Am­bas­sador Peter Doyle and Alan Jape who is the Group Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, of Jape Group International which op­er­ates a ho­tel in Dili.
