Rachel and Hayden hitch a ride to Splitsville
After 10 years, Hayden’s no longer the (Jedi) knight in shining armour for The O.C. babe
They say bad things come in threes, and following the recent break-ups of Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, then Fergie and Josh Duhamel, comes the news Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have split after 10 years together. Sob!
A source revealed last week that the couple – who haven’t been spotted together since June – have been “on the outs” for months and are now “completely, officially done”.
Rach is said to be living in LA full-time with their daughter Briar Rose, two, and Canadian native Hayden is in Toronto.
And while reports have suggested that distance played a part in their split, we’re told the relationship simply ran its course.
“I think they just grew bored of one another and the passion just fizzled out,” spills a pal of the pair, who got engaged in 2008 but called the wedding off in 2010 amid rumours Hayden had strayed with a PA on the set of Vanishing On 7th Street the previous year.
The couple later reconciled, but “some of their pals secretly always felt that another split could be on the cards”, says the insider. “To be honest, they’re surprised they held on for as long as they did.”
But things between Rach and the Star Wars hottie were once ab fab, with the former O.C. starlet painting a picture of domestic bliss back in 2013.
“I’m a really good girlfriend – I always put all that first in my life,” she told US Cosmopolitan. “I love to cook, so we make dinner at home a lot and watch movies.”
Just last month, in an interview with fashion quarterly Lapalme Magazine, Rach hinted that all was well at home, but failed to make any mention of Hayden.
“I may have another child, that’s still up in the air. I’m having so much fun with the one right now. I want to be happy and content,” she said.
Meanwhile, back in 2013, following their reunion after their first split, Rachel, 36, revealed she and Hayden – who met in 2006 on the set of sci-fi flick Jumper – had their fair share of issues, namely communication.
“I’m terrible at it. It’s caused a lot of problems lately,” she admitted. “It’s really important to communicate from the beginning – set it up for the relationship to succeed.”
And although theirs has since failed, Rachel is determined to stay on good terms with Hayden, also 36, for the sake of their daughter.
“All the life BS that happens doesn’t matter,” says Rach. “You want to be happy, you want your kid to be happy and you want everyone in your life to be healthy and happy.”

‘She hopes that they can still be a family and continue to do things together,’ a source says of Rach PERSONALITY CLASH Sources say that in the end, Rach and Hayden were just too different to make it work. “Rachel is very social and likes to hang out with friends. Hayden is reclusive and off the grid,” reports E! News, adding that she “tried to make it work for years but just got tired of this being her life”.
