Finally, a sibling for Matilda!
Michelle’s big news
She’s turning 12 on October 28, but forget clothes, make-up or a new phone – Heath Ledger’s little girl Matilda is asking her mum Michelle Williams for a sibling!
Sure, Matilda has surrogate sisters Birdie and Cricket in her mum’s bestie Busy Philipps’s girls, with Busy insisting, “They basically feel related.” But the tween has long wanted a little brother or sister of her own.
“For years, Matilda has been asking her mum to have another baby,” a family friend tells NW. “So many of her pals have sisters and brothers and she’s felt kind of left out.”
And after years of begging, at last she’s getting her wish!
Yep, now Michelle’s loved up with her new man – whose identity is still being kept firmly under wraps – the pitter-patter of tiny feet might soon be, er, afoot.
“For the first time since Heath’s death, Michelle’s feeling total happiness, like she’s walking on air. Now she’s contemplating adding a baby into her nearperfect life,” the pal reveals.
Michelle, 37, hasn’t always had babies on the brain, though.
“She was never in the right frame of mind, or relationship, to give it serious thought,” continues the pal.
But all that changed when she started dating her new guy, who she and Matilda were spied playing happy families with in Rome back in July.
“She seemed to know from the beginning that he was The One. Her maternal urge kicked into gear, too,” reveals the friend.
And while Michelle and Matilda have happily been two peas in a pod for years, they’re both ready to expand their cosy duo.
“Since Michelle entered this new relationship, she’s come to realise that perhaps having
another child wouldn’t be so bad,” says the friend.
“This could be an exciting new chapter in their lives!”
Having a sibling will no doubt be a change of pace for Matilda, who’s led a largely sheltered life.
Michelle has worked hard to give her daughter a stable foundation in the years following Heath’s tragic death in 2008, when Matilda was just two.
When she’s not on set, Michelle’s ferrying Matilda to school in Brooklyn, and helping with homework.
And friends and family say her hands-on approach has certainly paid off.
“I think that [Michelle] provides such a wonderful environment for Matilda to grow up in, especially in the sort of industry that she’s in,” Heath’s sister Kate told People magazine in April.
“Despite growing up without her dad, Tilly is well-adjusted,” adds NW’S insider. “She’s so much like Heath. She’s energetic and loves nature, and she’s seen a few of his films. Michelle and Matilda watch them every now and again and reminisce about him. They miss him.”
After everything these two have been through, it’s time for a little bundle of joy! n
‘Not only has Matilda inherited Heath’s looks, but his interests and charm, too,’ says a family friend Matilda clearly got her taste in hats, sunnies and gloves from her dad!
