‘WHY WE TURNED TO SURROGACY’
SARAH JESSICA PARKER “[We] tried to get pregnant, but it just was not to be,” SJP, 52, revealed in 2010, a year after twins Marion and Tabitha were born via surrogate. She and hubby Mathew Broderick, 55, are also parents to James, 15 this week, who SJP carried.
GUILIANA RANCIC “My first IVF I did get pregnant – that was the miscarriage. But the second one, I did not,” Giuliana, 43, admits. During her third IVF attempt in 2011, she discovered she had breast cancer. So, she and her husband Bill, 46, turned to surrogacy – and the following year, their son Edward Duke, now five, was born.
ELIZABETH BANKS “It was a womb issue – embryos wouldn’t implant,” the Pitch Perfect star says of choosing surrogacy to have sons Felix, six, and Magnus, four. “It’s a big leap, inviting a person into your life to do this amazing, important thing for you.”
NEIL PATRICK HARRIS The actor and his husband David, 42, both “wanted to be dads biologically” so they turned to surrogacy in 2010. “We inserted one of my sperm and one of David’s sperm into two eggs... and both took, miraculously,” says Neil, 44. The couple, who’ve been together since 2004, are now proud parents to twins Harper and Gideon.
RICKY MARTIN In 2008, the openly gay pop star knew he wanted to be a single dad, so he chose both an egg donor and a surrogate to have his twin boys Matteo and Valentino, now nine. Ricky, 45 – who’s now engaged to boyfriend Jwan Yosef – is looking at surrogacy again, in the hopes of having a daughter.
TYRA BANKS The model, 43, has always been open about her struggles with fertility. “I’ve had some not happy moments with that,” she says of IVF. “It’s difficult as you get older.” She and photographer boyfriend Erik Asla, 53, then turned to an “angel of a woman” to carry her son York, now 21 months. Sadly, Tyra and Erik called it quits earlier this month.
NICOLE KIDMAN Two years after giving birth to Sunday Rose, now nine – her first biological child with Keith Urban, 49 – the Big Little Lies star, 50, entrusted a surrogate to carry their “gift” Faith Margaret in 2010. “[We] are truly blessed,” says the Aussie actress.
