Have I lost touch with what I actually look like?
That’s the question I was asking asking-myself myself after reading our special report on selfie-esteem and the dangers of social media (see page 38).
Do I have an unrealistic image of myself, based on my social media pics?! Do I know what I really look like without the good angles, the good filters, the good lighting?
I was glued to our story and what the experts said – it really rang true to me. Not the collecting of likes (seriously, who cares?!) or the Facetuning of pics (I don’t!), but more the studying of your own image so much that you find things you want need to fix.
I think it’s time for a reality check – and boy, did I get it when I pulled out my tux for a friend’s black-tie wedding this weekend. I knew it had been getting snug over the years (that’s life!) but when I tried it on this week, the pants did not fit. Like, at all. Sh*******t!
I didn’t need social media or selfies or followers to tell me the diet starts today. And I need an emergency tailor... STAT!
Have a great week, Mark Brandon EDITOR
