Welcome to your new TV obsession...

NW - - Big Nw Turn On -

Meet SMILF Bridgette Bird ( Frankie Shaw), a smart, scrappy, young single mum from South Boston trying to navigate the trials of motherhood and sex – all while struggling to make ends meet and juggling her slightly crazy family. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, SMILF stands for Single MILF. Add it to the vocab!

WHY YOU’LL FALL IN LOVE WITH BRIDGETTE... She doesn’t come from money and she sleeps in the same bed as her son. Yep, life is that real! “She’s broke and down and out, and f**ked-up shit happens to her,” says Frankie. “But there’s a sense of optimism. It’s like the most tragic thing – you have to laugh at it.”

NEW GIRL-CRUSH ALERT... Look out Lena Dunham, Frankie writes, stars in and occasionally directs eps of SMILF, too! How’s that for multitasking? “Making the show is like being a single mum. It’s so hard and so much work, and there’s a singular focus,” says Frankie.

SOME FAMILIAR FACES POP UP... Bridgette’s unstable boss Ally and her combative mother Tutu are played by Connie Britton and Rosie O’donnell respectively. Keep your eyes peeled for former Home And Away star Samara Weaving as Nelson, the girlfriend of Bridgette’s ex Rafi ( Miguel Gomez).
