They’re two of America’s most loved sweethearts, but things between Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts have turned downright sour.

“Jen and Julia have known each other for 20 years and even worked together from time to time, but that doesn’t mean they like each other,” an insider tells NW. “And now that they’re in direct competition with their new TV shows, it’s gotten really tense.”

Indeed, Jen, 49, is returning to scripted TV for the first time since her iconic sitcom Frien Friends nds ended in 2004, producing and co-starring with Reese Witherspoon in a new mornin morningngshow drama a for Apple TV TV. V. Meanwhile Meanwhile, e, Julia’s new psychological thriller Homecoming oming is set to drop on Amazon n next month. Naturally, comparisons risons will be drawn between n these two star vehicles and the stars themselves.

“There’s e’s more overlap between them than han ever before, in terms of who they’re working with and who they ey want to work with,” says the e source. “That’s a recipe for disaster.” ster.”

And as tensions rise, everyone is bracing ng for another big dip on the Jen’n’julia ’n’julia rollercoaster.

“It’s become ecome awkward for all of their eir mutual friends,” claims the insider. “They’re both pals als with Reese, Nicole [Kidman] n] and Gwyneth [Paltrow], w], but if it comes to choosing sing sides, they’d probably be on Jen’s. s. And so would Courteney ney [Cox]. Jen is always ys having her girlfriends nds over, and she’s e’s just closer to o them than Julia ulia is.”

That That’s s not to say thatt that Julia,

50, doesn't have a few A-listers to lean on herself. herself “Even though George G [Clooney] always tries to keep the peace with eve everyone and considers himself a good friend to them both, his friendship with Julia is stronger stron and he’d be loyal to he her,” says our informant. “It wo would be the same case for Me Meryl [Streep].” It seems not that tha long ago that Jennifer and Julia were gushing about ea each other on their 2016 film M Mother’s Day, directed by the late Garry Marshall. But even amidst the smiles, they th couldn’t help throwing throwi a little passive-ag passive-aggressive shade. “It’s Jul Julia Roberts! Oh my gosh!” g said Jen, talking about feeling intimidated intimid at sharing the screen scr with such a long-established long established starr. star. “It’s just a different thing when you get to w wor work rk with them aand and yyou’re you’re doing what you yyou both do, do,, [but] together.” ttogether.” Meanwhile, Julia Jullia said of Jen, “She’s too gorgeous, she’s a lovely girl. She’s so hot [that] I’m glad I don’t have any scenes with her.”

Yep, we see what you did there, Jules!

The deep freeze between the pair reportedly stretches back more than 20 years, to when Julia made a guest appearance on Friends and then dated Matthew Perry.

According to Hollywood lore, Jen didn’t approve of the way Julia treated Matthew when she ditched him for her personal trainer – while Julia didn’t appreciate Jen “meddling” in the relationship.

In recent years, the actresses have maintained a cutesy public image, even sitting together and holding hands at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2015 (see left). However, no-one no one is kidding themselves that the th ceasefire will hold for much longer.

“The days of the them doing Garry Marshall comedies co are long gone,” declares de our insider. “Julia and Jen are pursuing the same e set of goals and are desperate for their shows to be major hits. The only people who are standing in their way are each other... ”
