Holden introduced the Sandman in 1974 as a panel van and ute, and it ran through to 1977. Though its production life was relatively short, it has become a cult icon in Australia and New Zealand. The name is set to make a comeback, with Holden releasing the Sandman for 2015 — kind of. The 2015 Sandman Special Edition is to be based off either the current VF Sportwagon or VF ute, in SV6 or SSV trim. It features blacked- out accents and wheels, with distinctive Sandman stripes and badging. In a ’70s retro touch, orange sheepskin seat inserts and an orange shagpile rug are optional extras. The 2015 Sandman Special Edition will retail at a $2950 premium to the standard SV6 and SSV prices. There’s no word on New Zealand availability, but, if you’re that keen to relive your misspent youth, the current parity between the New Zealand and Australian dollars can’t hurt.
