Low power loss, low cost... and high performance
There are two basic types of C4, the ‘case fill’ for compacts and the ‘pan fill’ for full-size car and truck applications. Very low power loss is another reason the C4 remains popular with hot rodders and racers alike. It takes roughly twice the h.p to drive the C6. as it does a C4. It has a first-gear ratio of 2.46:1, second 1.46:1, and third 1.00:1 — all the same as C6. There is a wide variety of aftermarket parts available for the lightweight trans to help make it a heavyweight performer. High-tech friction linings from Raybestos and Alto. Kolene steels to billet servos and Kevlar bands to manual valve bodies.
