2010 HSV VE GTS

NZV8 - - SPECIAL FEATURE -

“I got the plate a week after Peter Brock died,” Darren Anderson explains of his ‘BROKIE’ number plate. “I’d gone for hot laps with him in his A9X Torana at Calder Park just a month before he died. I was tossing up between Bathurst and Calder Park, and my wife basically said that I could go to Bathurst any year but I might never get another chance for hot laps with Brockie. She was right!” Before Darren purchased this Hazard Yellow– painted VE GTS a year ago, the ‘BROKIE’ plate was worn with pride on his VY ClubSport — a six-speed manual example finished in Hothouse Green. “I owned the VY for 11 years, and only put 13,000km on it in that time,” Darren says — and his current VE is similar. “It stays in the garage, and only comes out on special occasions.” After selling the VY, Darren and his wife started looking for a VE to replace it — although not just any VE would do. As you may have guessed, Darren’s a diehard HSV-head, and it took two years before they found the right one. Being a VE E3 series, this GTS gets the heavy-hitting 325kW (436hp) 6.2-litre GM LS3 V8. It looks good, sounds good, and goes even better — everything Darren’s ever wanted from an HSV.
