DRAGGED UP

-

There’s plenty of hype building up to this year’s 51st running of the BurgerFuel Port Road Drags, an event that’s now firmly cemented as the most-popular eighth-mile street drag event in the country. The date is November 26, and the entry list already contains some of the biggest-hitting street cars around, including some that’ve not yet raced at the venue — Gary Bogaart’s nitrous-ingesting Ford Falcon being one of them, and one that the local Wellington crowd is looking forward to seeing. Christchurch-based Daniel Southall will be making his annual trek to the event, now with more power than ever before thanks to new cylinder heads on his eight-second small block Camaro. Of course, the event’s not about outright power; with a 6.5-second breakout time for the eighth-mile strip, it’s a matter of throttle control for the big power cars.
