The actor, the activist, the Hollywood enigma… Leonardo Dicaprio’s life in pictures

He’s coming up to his third decade in Hollywood, but Leonardo Dicaprio doesn’t believe he’s changed all that much from his early acting days. ‘I think I’m not much different from that boy. The actor I wanted to become, and the movies I wanted to do are, for some reason, the same,’ he shares. ‘As an actor, I’m always trying to get better, be more free and take more chances.’

Turning 43 on November 11, the star has certainly surpassed the teenage girl-fuelled frenzy days that surrounded his early fame. And Leo is glad he’s been able to withstand the attention. ‘You want to be remembered for your work rather than being sort of the hunk of the month,’ he explains. ‘There’s always a new pretty face.’

And while he’s still managed to hang onto that cheeky young grin that we all fell in love with in the ’90s, there’s definitely more to the award-winning actor than meets the eye…
