The first Tri­ton

While in UK re­cently, DENNIS QUIN­LAN came across this photo of what is un­doubt­edly the first Tri­ton, re­sult­ing from the mar­riage of a Tri­umph twin en­gine and a Nor­ton chas­sis. This dates from 1939, just one year after the in­tro­duc­tion of the Ed­ward Turner Speed Twin en­gine, and the spe­cial was cre­ated by ‘Cromie” McCand­less, who with his brother Rex later cre­ated mo­tor­cy­cling his­tory with their ‘featherbed’ Nor­ton frame. n
