Dextrous Dave

Old Bike Australasia - - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR -

I have just read a couple of back issues and was surprised to see people I knew from years ago. Back in the ‘70s I was secretary to Alan Wallis (President of the ACCA) and remember him talking about the Tilbrook machines. I have not spoken to Alan for many years. The enclosed photo (above) was a result of Dave Basham buying my old 400 CZ for the Flat Tracker he was building and was trying out at St.Kilda short circuit. Of course Dave had to include a ride around the track for the kids on his home made scooter outfit! Dave, if I remember correctly, won both the scrambles and short circuit titles that year. I went off to cover the 250 and 500cc titles in Europe for Revs magazine and met most of the riders who rode at Basham Park in the international series promoted by Linden Prouse later on. Graham Longley Via email Thanks for the photo and story Graham. You’re our RariTee t-shirt winner for this issue. - Ed
