SEPTEMBER 2016 Alice Springs, NT – Parrtyeme – A Festival in Light
Australia’s biggest ever light show installation will illuminate the area, including the mighty MacDonnell Ranges, when the first authentic Indigenous light festival of its kind in the world comes to Alice Springs!
From the team behind Sydney’s iconic ‘ Vivid Festival’, together with Central Australian Aboriginal artists, will present this breathtaking light and sound display of original, authentic Indigenous art created by local artists, students and the community. Highlights include a series of large illuminated 1950s-style circle skirts featuring the watercolour artwork of Lenie Namatjira, granddaughter of Albert Namatjira.
The event takes its name from the Arrernte word “Parrtma”, meaning “light up” or “lighting up”.
