Koala Forest is now open! !
Victoria’s Healesville Sanctuary has just revealed a brand new exhibit –
– celebrating the iconic Aussie koala! Not only can you see them high in their trees from a special boardwalk, but you can also visit them and take photos.
The exhibit also includes daily Koala Keeper talks and shares the Wurundjeri story of Kuboroo the Koala in a very special way. Kids can climb like a koala, test their balance, and nestle into a branch fork to plant their bony bottoms for a big sleep, just like a koala.
A koala joey made her zoo debut in June 2016 on the other side of the world, at the Australian Outback exhibit in San Diego Zoo. Born last November, she has been hiding in mum Cambee’s pouch until now, and will cling tightly to her back for a few months before she ventures out solo. San Diego Zoo has the largest breeding colony of Queensland koalas outside Australia. Red Panda twins born at Melbourne Zoo last December are now beginning to become more active and visible to visitors. It is usual for these cubs to spend a long time in the nest while they are still nursing, but it looks like mum, Roshani, is happy for her little ones to start exploring the bigger world around them!
