Queens­land’s Aus­tralia Zoo is cel­e­brat­ing the ar­rival a fe­male gi­raffe calf to mum, Sally, on 10 May. The al­most-2m-tall gi­raffe is the fourth to be born at the zoo in the past two years – all of them fe­male – join­ing sis­ter Tulip and half-sis­ters Skye and Lily. Five crit­i­cally-en­dan­gered Plains-wan­der­ers have re­cently hatched at Syd­ney’s Taronga Zoo.o. Small grass­land birds, sim­i­lar in ap­pear­ance to a quail, there are only around 200 Plains-wan­der­ers left in the wild and the good news is that they have now been placed on the NSW State Gov­ern­ment’s list of six iconic species who will be given pri­or­ity un­der r the ‘Sav­ing our Species’ pro­gram.
