Out & About with Kids - - WE REVIEW -

Location

Escape at Hyams Beach on Jervis Bay is situated on the beautiful South Coast of NSW, approximately 2.5 hours drive south of Sydney or 3 hours drive from Canberra. This holiday home is located on the beachfront reserve at the northern end of the village with stunning views out over the bay.

Hyams Beach is surrounded by World Heritage marine sanctuaries and often voted as one of the best beaches in Australia with its white sand, clear blue waters and abundance of sea life. Jervis Bay Marine Park covers an area of 22,000ha and over 100kms of breathtaking coastline.

Accommodation

This ideal beach holiday home sleeps up to 11 people across five bedrooms. Tastefully renovated with beach house-style interiors and timber flooring throughout, Escape is spread over three levels. The lower level has a good sized lounge/rumpus with wide screen tv, 1 x queen room and a tri-bunk room - both sharing a bathroom with shower and toilet. The mezzanine level at the rear of the house has a laundry complete with washer/dryer and an extra toilet, a twin bedroom and a full bathroom. The upstairs level is the central living space with an open plan kitchen, dining, lounge and 2 x queen bedrooms (one with shower en-suite). The upper front deck looks out across the bay, with bbq and a telescope ready for stargazing.

Outside this corner block is a beautiful landscaped garden and an outdoor shower to rinse off the white sand residue from beach adventures. Just across the road is a reserve with swings and climbing equipment for the kids. OAWK Tip: Have a peek in the cupboards and bathroom cabinets. The thoughtful owners have catered for kids of all ages with a treasure trove of board games and toys, including a coveted racing track, as well as bath playthings.

Explore

We had plenty of plans to explore Jervis Bay National Park and Booderee National Park. We packed our bikes and intended to explore the beachfront bike paths, and to head out on a dolphin watch from Huskisson. But there was just so much to see and do in our immediate vicinity that we were unable to tick off our full wish list itinerary of activities in three days.

Each morning and afternoon we wandered across the road and down the easy beach access path to enjoy simple pleasures like races along the beach, walks around the rock pools at either end, swimming, fishing, dolphin spotting. We fed the friendly kangaroos that gathered each morning and evening on the front lawn, played plenty of board games and had a fun ‘Make Your Own Pizza’ night! And before we knew it, our relaxing long weekend had slipped away. OAWK Tip: Dolphin spotting is one of the joys of Jervis Bay. Take a boat trip out from Huskisson, a 10 minute drive away, for an up-close dolphin encounter, or stay put and keep an eye out for a playful pod from the beach. Choose your winter beach holiday here between May to November to watch in awe as migrating humpback and southern right whales stop in the bay for a break on their journey.
