A chilly Mr Mills, 1905
WANGARATTA’S Her Majesty’s Theatre was the venue for a concert on the evening of July 26, 1905, by the celebrated basso Watkin Mills. Mills had picked up a cold in Goulburn earlier in the tour, and had been unable to sing at Albury the night before. He managed to perform at his Wangaratta concert, but the bulk of the singing was done by his associates in the company.
It was so cold in the theatre that the singers wore overcoats on the stage during breaks in song cycles.
