Howard re­tains golf ti­tle

STILL re­cov­er­ing from one of the most an­tic­i­pated and lu­cra­tive fights in the his­tory of world box­ing, nine play­ers got ready to rum­ble for Septem­ber’s Monthly Medal at the Beechworth Golf Club on Sun­day.

In a unan­i­mous points de­ci­sion, Ja­cob Howard (35) re­tained the ti­tle with an amaz­ing score of 59 nett, with Jamie Dolny (18) al­most go­ing punch for punch on 62.

Those who were knocked out in the first round in­cluded Zane Howard (21) 67, Ben Croome (17) 69, Dean Howard (26) 70, Col Car­mody (22) 70, Andy Croome (15) 72, Peter Smith (19) 75, and Brian Cro­p­ley (36) 77.

Andy made a good fist of his tee shot on the 17th scor­ing a Near­est the Pin.

Four of our mem­bers also made the most of fa­ther’s day on Sun­day, tak­ing part in Ruther­glen’s An­nual Tour­na­ment.

Graeme Pool got much more than a pair of socks en­joy­ing a rare vic­tory in the 18 hole Scratch in C Grade.

We also can­not for­get about the women, with four ladies com­ing fit and fir­ing for an­other round of Stable­ford on Wed­nes­day.

Gail Smith (19) played with un­shake­able con­sis­tency post­ing an in­sur­mount­able score of 37 points, with Lor­raine Poyntz (28) next best on 31.

Fail­ing to fire on the day were Glenda Mar­shall (13) 27 and Jan Lang (24) 22.

The main event next Sun­day is Ver­sus Par at 12pm, while 10 of our mem­bers will step into the ring for the Vic­to­rian Sand­green Cham­pi­onships in Wed­der­burn, with the un­der­card be­ing Chiltern’s An­nual Tour­na­ment.
