Cr O’Connor and the other councillors are entitled to their viewpoint on same-sex marriage, just as any other citizen is in a free and democratic society.

However, this does not give them licence to pass resolutions which say the council supports this change to the marriage law.

There is a substantial number of residents that support the traditional view of marriage.

They are entitled to their viewpoint and to have it respected.
