Foundation extends hand
INTO Our Hands Community Foundation – the pan-Indigo, Alpine and Wangaratta local government areas’ fund set up with $1 million from Black Saturday Bushfire Appeal gifts in 2009 – has received $18,000 grant to promote community philanthropy.
Cathy McGowan (MHR, Indi) yesterday said she had been pleased to support the foundation’s application to the federal government’s Building Better Regions Fund for a grant from the fund’s communities’ stream.
“Since its creation after the BeechworthMudgegonga fires in 2009, the Into Our Hands Community Foundation has provided a significant contribution to the sustainability of the region,” Ms McGowan said.
“This funding will allow it to extend its community philanthropy beyond Indigo and Alpine Shires to Wangaratta.”
The foundation has done extensive work with the Murmungee community since the fires.
Ms McGowan congratulated the foundation for its work in developing the application.
“I’m looking forward to seeing more of the wonderful outcomes that are achieved when community, government and community foundations work together,” she said.
