Holiday fun in alpine region
WITH the school holidays in full swing, there is still time to enjoy the fun of the snow season in its closing days.
At Falls Creek, September 28 sees a host of school holiday fun with Spongebob Squarepants and his friends as part of the Nickelodeon Snow Cup, taking place at Cloud 9 from midday.
The event will include heaps of competitive events or you can also indulge your creative side and build a SnowBob.
October 1 sees the Big Dig, an exciting hunt for buried treasure with plenty of activities and prizes to be won.
October 1 also sees the commencement of the 7 Peaks Run and 7 Peaks Alpine Ascent events, happening across the Alpine region, where you can challenge yourself by completing various running and cycling routes over the next few months.
This weekend at Mt Buller, you can enjoy the Bangers ‘n’ Mash 2017 event.
It marks one of the last days in the season with lots of music and a jam session in the Mt Buller Park.
If football is your style, you can celebrate Grand Final Day at Mt Hotham venue The General.
Meanwhile, at Mt Buffalo, snow cover is disappearing fast in exposed areas.
Dingo Dell has limited tobogganing but has sightseeing and snow play.
Cresta has a fair cover for tobogganing and very good snow play and sightseeing.
The Horn Road has fair cross country skiing.
Many of the walking tracks on the plateau still have some snow on them.
Tracks like the Monolith and Gorge Heritage Walk have had enough traffic to make them easy to follow.
Facilities on the mountain include a café and day shelter at Dingo Dell.
Keep an eye on snow cams and the website of your preferred mountain, or ask your local ski hire business or tourism information centre for information on current snow conditions at resorts around the area.
