Former teacher to front court on summons
DETECTIVES who for almost three years have been appealing for information from former Beechworth primary school students about alleged sexual assault have charged a Yackandandah man on summons to appear before a magistrates’ court later this month.
Wodonga detectives last week charged the man, a former teacher, for indecent dealing among 38 former students in schools across Victoria.
It is understood that the man is to answer almost 100 allegations of assault – most of which are more than 30 years old.
Victoria Police sexual offences unit’s Dave Bruce told North East Media in in 2015 that police were appealing to former students who attended primary schools in western Victoria, particularly near Ballarat, and in the North East communities of Myrtleford, Beechworth and Wodonga for any information.
The man came to the North East in the mid1970s and began to work at schools in these communities.
He has been summoned to appear before a court on October 17.
