For­mer teacher to front court on sum­mons

DE­TEC­TIVES who for al­most three years have been ap­peal­ing for in­for­ma­tion from for­mer Beech­worth pri­mary school stu­dents about al­leged sex­ual as­sault have charged a Yackan­dan­dah man on sum­mons to ap­pear be­fore a mag­is­trates’ court later this month.

Wodonga de­tec­tives last week charged the man, a for­mer teacher, for in­de­cent deal­ing among 38 for­mer stu­dents in schools across Vic­to­ria.

It is un­der­stood that the man is to an­swer al­most 100 al­le­ga­tions of as­sault – most of which are more than 30 years old.

Vic­to­ria Po­lice sex­ual of­fences unit’s Dave Bruce told North East Me­dia in in 2015 that po­lice were ap­peal­ing to for­mer stu­dents who at­tended pri­mary schools in western Vic­to­ria, par­tic­u­larly near Bal­larat, and in the North East com­mu­ni­ties of Myrtle­ford, Beech­worth and Wodonga for any in­for­ma­tion.

The man came to the North East in the mid1970s and be­gan to work at schools in th­ese com­mu­ni­ties.

He has been sum­moned to ap­pear be­fore a court on October 17.
