Carracher wins monthly medal
BATHURST may have had the V8 Supercars on Sunday, but the Beechworth Golf Club had seven super players forming the grid for October’s Monthly Medal.
Lapping up victory was Ford driver Simon Carracher (18) who kept his foot on the accelerator to finish on 64 nett, overtaking Zane Howard (21) on the last lap on 65.
Those who had constant mechanical issues included Andy Croome (17) 69, Peter Smith (19) 74, George Ward (16) 75, Brian Cropley (36) 80, and Jacob Howard (34) 87.
Brian hit top gear on the 10th with his Nearest the Pin, while Jacob hit one Conrod straight on the 17th.
Players will race out again next Sunday for a Stableford event at 1pm.
Before then, the Club is having a working bee on Saturday at 9am to prepare the course for the Ladies and Men’s Annual Tournaments on October 18 and 22 respectively.
Last Thursday, week one of the 2017-18 Twilight season commenced, with 18 players taking on the front nine.
The opening cash giveaway was won by Paul O’Loughlin with a score of 21 points, with 19 points sending Col Carmody to the Hibernian Hotel and Andrew MacKenzie to The Granite Café.
Josh Carr was rewarded for his round of 18 points with a ball, while Kerin Rowbottom and Gareth Pritchard both chipped in on the 9th.
Drummond Golf can expect a visit from Graeme Cordy after he hit the Nearest the Pin on the 3rd, and Andy Croome will not go hungry after winning a Beechworth Butchery voucher in the raffle.
