Indigo re­calls the Great War

INDIGO com­mu­ni­ties will mark the 99th an­niver­sary of the end of the Great War 191418 at Re­mem­brance Day ser­vices on Satur­day.

The solemn ob­ser­vance com­mem­o­rates the ar­mistice be­tween the Al­lies and the Ger­man and Aus­tro-Hun­gar­ian em­pires that came into ef­fect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month af­ter the peace had been signed in a rail­way car­riage in the for­est of Com­piegne north east of Paris.

Ser­vices will be­gin just be­fore 11am at the Yackandandah war me­mo­rial in High Street, Kiewa ceno­taph in Kiewa East Road, Chiltern war me­mo­rial, Ruther­glen ceno­taph and Beech­worth ceno­taph, in Town Hall Gar­dens.

Peo­ple at­tend­ing the ser­vices should as­sem­ble from about 10.30am.

The Beech­worth ser­vice will take place dur­ing the town’s an­nual Celtic Fes­ti­val.
