Indigo recalls the Great War
INDIGO communities will mark the 99th anniversary of the end of the Great War 191418 at Remembrance Day services on Saturday.
The solemn observance commemorates the armistice between the Allies and the German and Austro-Hungarian empires that came into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month after the peace had been signed in a railway carriage in the forest of Compiegne north east of Paris.
Services will begin just before 11am at the Yackandandah war memorial in High Street, Kiewa cenotaph in Kiewa East Road, Chiltern war memorial, Rutherglen cenotaph and Beechworth cenotaph, in Town Hall Gardens.
People attending the services should assemble from about 10.30am.
The Beechworth service will take place during the town’s annual Celtic Festival.
