QUIRKY ART:

Ovens & Murray Advertiser - - FRONT PAGE -

Beechworth’s Evan Smith ( pictured) has been taking time off from his work as a fitter and turner at the family workshop Pennyweight Engineering to do some amazing creative welding of his own. Using some pieces of steel and sheet metal Mr Smith created ‘ Therese’, a little girl who seems to be helping with the impossible task of pushing a huge boulder up a hill on the outskirts of Beechworth. Mr Smith is well known for his outstanding and thought- provoking sculptures. “I like to make human pieces, but I also enjoy making other things from metal, like unusual gates and doors,” he said. “People come to me with an idea and I’ll often be able to build it for them.”
