McCormick sisters are Berri bound
SISTERS Eloise and Georgia McCormick are representing Country Victoria in the upcoming Australian Country Championships in Berri, South Australia this week.
The tournament runs for 10 days and we play all the other states, territories and the Australian Defence Force Team.
This is Georgia’s third year representing the team, with the 10-day event Eloise’s first Country Championships experience.
The sisters play hockey for Beechworth Hockey Club in the combined BeechworthWombats Division one hockey team in AlburyWodonga.
Georgia also play Premier League Hockey for Essendon Hockey Club in Melbourne.
There are six representatives from Albury Wodonga representing Country Victoria who were selected from the Senior Country Championships held in Geelong over the June long weekend earlier in the year where the Senior Womens Albury-Wodonga side won.
Both players are looking forward to the challenge at the Australian Country Championships and looking forward to facing some of the best players regional Australia has to offer with the aim to inspire young talented, up and coming hockey players from Beechworth Hockey Club.
The Victorian Country hockey side is full of fit, fast and smart players.
There are six girls (including Eloise) in the side that are coming away for the first time but will be ably supported by two great coaches, Disco and DT who are full of ideas and inspiration for us to bring home the gold.
The tournament starts on Friday with our first game against a tough NSW side.
“We are both looking forward to playing tough hockey and developing our skills and knowledge of the game,” Georgia McCormick said.
“We hope to bring home the gold medal.”
The competitors over the tournament also have the opportunity to be selected in the senior Australian country team that plays in New Zealand, April 2019.
