Red Cross branch continues good work
BEECHWORTH Red Cross Branch has had another successful year of fundraising as advised to members and guests at its annual general meeting earlier this month.
A total of $ 17,550 was raised for the year which was made up from the Red Cross Calling appeal, the group’s catering service, other donations, and membership fees.
Payments from donations and the catering service profits were forwarded to the Australian Red Cross for the Syrian Crisis, Cyclone Gita and Myanmar appeals, as well as $ 1,800 to the Red Cross Patient Transport program and $ 1,500 to the Red Cross International 2018 Project to build resilient communities in South- West Myanmar.
Three emergency services team members have also been assisting and are now coordinating a FoodREDI program at the Beechworth Correctional Centre which assists prisoners to cook nutritional and inexpensive meals once they leave the facility.
At the meeting Julia Smith was once again elected as chair of the branch, with Gwen Gray ( Deputy Chairman), Linley Sewell ( Secretary), Carol Scholtens ( Treasurer) and Wendy Kelly ( Asst. Treasurer) filling the other vacant office- bearer roles.
