Red Cross branch con­tin­ues good work

BEECH­WORTH Red Cross Branch has had another suc­cess­ful year of fundrais­ing as ad­vised to mem­bers and guests at its an­nual gen­eral meet­ing ear­lier this month.

A to­tal of $ 17,550 was raised for the year which was made up from the Red Cross Call­ing ap­peal, the group’s cater­ing ser­vice, other do­na­tions, and mem­ber­ship fees.

Pay­ments from do­na­tions and the cater­ing ser­vice prof­its were for­warded to the Aus­tralian Red Cross for the Syr­ian Cri­sis, Cy­clone Gita and Myan­mar ap­peals, as well as $ 1,800 to the Red Cross Pa­tient Trans­port pro­gram and $ 1,500 to the Red Cross In­ter­na­tional 2018 Project to build re­silient com­mu­ni­ties in South- West Myan­mar.

Three emer­gency ser­vices team mem­bers have also been as­sist­ing and are now co­or­di­nat­ing a FoodREDI pro­gram at the Beech­worth Cor­rec­tional Cen­tre which as­sists pris­on­ers to cook nu­tri­tional and in­ex­pen­sive meals once they leave the fa­cil­ity.

At the meet­ing Ju­lia Smith was once again elected as chair of the branch, with Gwen Gray ( Deputy Chair­man), Lin­ley Sewell ( Sec­re­tary), Carol Scholtens ( Trea­surer) and Wendy Kelly ( Asst. Trea­surer) fill­ing the other va­cant of­fice- bearer roles.
