Gaffney back in top job

INDIGO Shire coun­cil wel­comed a new, but fa­mil­iar, face as mayor on Tues­day night af­ter a draw from a hat.

Cr Bernard Gaffney was elected mayor at the coun­cil’s statu­tory meet­ing, fol­low­ing the draw af­ter Cr Gaffney and Cr Larry Goldswor­thy each se­cured three votes.

For­mer mayor Jenny O’Connor is on leave for a month to con­test a seat in the Vic­to­rian state elec­tion on Novem­ber 24 and ac­cord­ingly, did not take part in Tues­day night’s meet­ing.

Cr Gaffney re­ceived three votes from him­self, Cr Barb Mur­doch and Cr So­phie Price.

The draw was a re­sult of Cr Goldswor­thy re­ceiv­ing three votes from him­self, Cr James Tren­ery and Cr Di Shep­heard.

Cr Bar­bara Mur­doch was elected deputy mayor un­op­posed.

Cr Gaffney and Cr Mur­doch’s serv­ing terms have been set at one year.

Cr Gaffney has been mayor on three pre­vi­ous oc­ca­sions, and Cr Mur­doch on one pre­vi­ous oc­ca­sion.

NEW MAYOR: Indigo Shire’s Bernard Gaffney will once again be the shire’s mayor.
