Community rallies with burpees
IT took just under two hours for Jane Archer to complete her 1000 burpees in an effort that saw the money that she raised hit over $30,000 dollars for Beechworth mother Sarah Waters’ brain surgery.
And in an emotional arrival Ms Waters, just days after surgery, arrived just as the clean up began much to the pleasure of Ms Archer.
“Sarah had had the surgery on the Wednesday and I knew that they tried to get her out of hospital and home as soon as possible,” Ms Archer said.
“It was an emotional moment to see her turn up, I wasn’t aware that she was coming; it was just after 3pm and most people had left.
“There is still a bit of work to do with her speech, movement and memory but they think she will pull through; it was a success.”
Ms Archer’s 1000 burpees were fuelled along by the Beechworth Music Festival band, but it wasn’t all easy going for the mother of two.
“I hit a bit of a wall with about 100 to go, but I knew I was tracking under two hours so I kept pushing through,” she said.
“It was awesome to have so many people cheering you on, I didn’t respond straight away because I was concentrating on the burpees.
“It was such a strong feeling of community support. “It did take a lot out of me.” Over 28,000 burpees were completed on the day in a massive effort from all those that took part.
