McGowan discusses major projects with local government
FEDERAL Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan heard about major projects in Indigo Shire Council at the Indi Local Government Roundtable on Monday.
Former Mayor Jenny O’Connor and Chief Executive Officer Trevor Ierino joined other Indi local government mayors and CEOs in Wangaratta to discuss major projects and federal funding opportunities.
Early works have begun on a multi-million dollar upgrade to the Rail Trail between Beechworth and Yackandandah.
Council is also preparing an application to the Building Better Regions Fund for the Beechworth to Yackandandah mountain bike epic trail.
“These projects will boost tourism and create jobs. Creating attractions such as a mountain bike trail will bring visitors and help Indigo Shire thrive,” Ms McGowan said.
“Having regular discussions with local governments ensures mayors and CEOs are aware of funding opportunities and the assistance available for their applications.
It is a delight to hear about the many projects happening around Indi that have direct benefits for communities.”
Further funding opportunities include the Building Better Regions Fund.
Applications are open to organisations with an Australian Business Number (ABN) and can be made at www.business.gov.au/assistance/buildingbetter-regions-fund until 15 November 2018.
