RENAULT AUSTRALIA has introduced a new turbocharged petrol engine into the strong-selling Kangoo small van family.

“This new powertrain is a significant change for the Kangoo, which has the highest market share of any Renault product sold here in Australia,” senior model line manager for Renault Light Commercial Vehicles Lyndon Healey says.

“The Kangoo petrol auto has been the best-selling variant to date and we expect a high demand for the new EDC, which has two more gears than the auto it replaces.

“This variant has been among the most affordable vans of its type on the market, and this is set to continue with the new version.”

The new 1.2-litre turbocharged engine claims to offer better real-world performance and better fuel economy than many larger naturally aspirated engines, and replaces the previous 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit.

The new engine will be offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic gear change.

As before, the petrol Kangoo, now known as the Compact, comes with the standard wheelbase body offering 3.0m3 of load space.

It has a tailgate as standard (barn doors are optional), as well as sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle for added convenience for urban operators who often work in confined loading and unloading areas.
