CHANNEL 9’S BIASED REPORT
Here we go again. What responsibility do the police and media have for truck drivers’ wellbeing? Absolutely none it seems.
The news on Channel 9 on Friday night February 10 reported on a truck accident on the Pacific Highway near Kempsey. In their interview, the police said how a young offender was chased for some time before ploughing his car under a semi.
The copper said how he felt sympathy for the police, the paramedics, the rescue workers and the family and friends of the deceased young man. But who was first on the scene? Who not only witnessed the accident but felt it, and who has to live the rest of his life knowing someone died under his wheels?
No sympathy at all for the truck driver … or for his family! No consideration for the shock and trauma he would have felt or the ongoing impact this will have on his mental health and on his family and friends.
As for Channel 9, the only interest they showed in him at all was emphasising their crusade on truck drivers, saying that he would be drug and alcohol tested. Errol Leahy, Queensland
