Ed Sheeran Warner/Atlantic www.warnermusic.com.au Ed Sheeran’s catalogue so far is a mathematician’s dream. First off we had + ( Plus) in 2011 followed by
x ( Multiply) in 2014. Sheeran has kept with that theme with his third album ÷, or, more simply, Divide. His creative songwriting well is showing no signs of drying up. And he’s still only 25. Divide is full of radiofriendly tracks, notably the upbeat pop sound of ‘Castle On The Hill’ with its big-impact chorus. Then there’s ‘Shape Of You’, a calypso-styled song where Sheeran is seemingly infatuated with his love interest’s figure. He reflects on his paternal grandparents’ roots on the Irish-flavoured ‘Galway Girl’, and adds his rapid-fire rap to ‘Eraser’. The deluxe edition of Divide includes the danceable ‘Barcelona’. It’s as good as, if not better than, Sheeran’s previous albums.
