Luke Yeoward Half Way Records www.lukeyeoward.com Luke Yeoward is the former lead singer of former Melbourne-based New Zealand band King Cannons that called it quits in 2013. Returning to music after a three-year hiatus, Yeoward has released his first solo album – Ghosts. It’s full of jangling guitars, the sound well suited to Yeoward’s pleading vocals. The 11 tracks range from the reggae styled ‘Cool Water’, the post-punk ‘Who Can Save Us Now’ to the relaxed west-coast country groove of ‘Whose Side Are You On’, a song Yeoward co-wrote with The Living End’s Chris Cheney. The title track ‘Ghosts’ is another laden with punk-style guitar riffs, but there’s none better than ‘Gainesville’, a catchy song showcasing Yeoward’s liking for basic, treble chords. The nicely laidback ‘Red Eyes’ is an apt finale.
