THE $635 million Warrego Highway Upgrade Program is underway in Queensland, including a 15 section upgrade that is being funded by the federal and state government on an 80:20 basis.

This part of the project includes Dalby Western Access and Dalby Eastern Access upgrades with a total investment of $59 million and $56 million respectively.

Federal infrastructure and transport minister Darren Chester says the upgrades will improve road safety in the region. “The Dalby Eastern and Western Access Upgrade projects are all about improving safety, with extra pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and improved street lighting being put in place,” Chester says.

“These two projects are among 15 being delivered as part of the Australian Government’s $508 million commitment to upgrade the Warrego Highway between Toowoomba to Miles.”

Acting state main roads and road safety minister Steven Miles says the upgrades will improve freight productivity by making the movement of freight vehicles more efficient.

“These two projects will benefit heavy vehicle operators in the agriculture, resources and tourism industries, by reducing delivery times and operational costs,” Miles says.

“Improvements, such as dedicated right-turn lanes at all major intersections of the Warrego Highway through Dalby, will make travelling along this section of the highway safer and more efficient.

Construction is expected to be completed by late next year.
