Foo Fighters Sony/ RCA

Foo Fighters have never sounded heavier than on their ninth studio album Concrete And Gold, which is also its most diverse. Frontman Dave Grohl pushes his vocals to the limit on the album’s first single ‘Run’, the band repeating the intense effort on the riffladen ‘La Dee Da’, with the help of jazz saxophonist Dave Koz as well as The Kills’ Alison Mosshart on backing vocals. Mosshart also appears on the Beatles-influenced ‘The Sky Is A Neighbourhood’, but more surprising is Justin Timberlake’s brief vocal input on ‘Make It Right’, which also boasts a Led Zeppelin-type guitar riff. Paul McCartney dropped by during recording sessions, adding a drum track to the Beatle-ish ‘Sunday Rain’, while Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men adds vocals to the purposeful title track of this brilliant album.
