ASHAMPOO PHOTO MAILER

Emailing a few photos to a friend should be easy, but the reality can be very di¢erent. The maximum attachment size for some email servers is only 10MB, so to send more you might have to spend time cropping images, resizing them, using lower quality settings, maybe splitting them across multiple emails.

Ashampoo Photo Mailer is a specialist email client which removes all these hassles. There’s no need to worry about size limits, the number of photos you’re sending or anything else, as the program handles everything for you.

A simple wizard-based interface imports your images with a drag and drop, then displays a simple “new message” dialog. You might need your email account details - server, user name, password - the first time you use the program, but otherwise it’s just a matter of entering your recipient’s email address, a subject line and maybe some body text.

Ashampoo Photo Mailer then adds up the total size of all your images, and tells you how many emails it’ll take to send them all. If you’re happy with this, click Next to send them; if you’re not, dragging the “Quality” slider reduces the image quality and file size until it hits something more suitable.

This all worked well for us, but there are also a couple of more hidden settings you need to explore.

The “Address Book” can import your Windows contacts in a couple of clicks, ensuring you won’t have to manually reenter every email address.

By default the emails you send have a signature advertising Photo Mailer, but this isn’t hard-coded. Click Settings > Options and you can change it to whatever you like.

PDF COMPRESSOR

Abelssoft PDF Compressor 2017 is a simple application which makes it easy to shrink your PDFs.

Drag and drop your target documents onto the program and they appear as tabs. Clicking on any of these displays a preview, and you can browse through page thumbnails to make sure you’ve got the right files.

Dragging the rotary “Output Quality” slider allows you to set the quality of your saved files. High values will preserve the original document quality but make little di’erence to file size; low values may significantly reduce quality, but also deliver the best reductions in file size.

When you’re ready, click Compress, choose an output folder, and the program shrinks and writes each document in turn.

WEBSITE X5 START 13

WebSite X5 Start 13 is an easy-to-use WYSIWYG web design tool which can help you create websites, blogs, online stores, presentations, digital photo albums and a whole lot more.

Unlike many similar applications, WebSite X5 Start doesn’t require web design experience or low-level knowledge of the technology. You don’t have to edit HTML code or debug JavaScripts: instead, the program acts as a straightforward wizard, walking you through every step of the design process.

You start by choosing from 150 professionally-designed site templates, for instance. They’re sorted in themes like “Shop”, “Cinema”, “Animals”, “Sport”, and all you have to do is browse the thumbnail gallery and select whatever you need.

After setting custom page headers and footers, you’re able to build a site map, which defines the structure of your project. Then you can extend this, adding more menus, maybe nesting them to match whatever you’re trying to do.

Designing individual pages is then just a matter of dragging and dropping objects onto a page. At its simplest, you might just add a text box, then type into it to add whatever content you need. But it’s just as easy to add images, videos or audio files, Flash animations, maps, and a range of social network gadgets.
