This style of headphones, with the battery and electronics around the neck, is becoming more prevalent. They relieve your ears of the weight and bulk of other Bluetooth sets and allow a larger battery, in this case it’s ten hours’ worth, which is short of what you’d want as an Australian long-haul traveller. And, while featuring active noise cancelling as well as an ‘adaptive mode’ that samples your surrounds before setting the processing, the noise cancelling itself is surprisingly poor compared to just about everything else. That was a big surprise, I expected much better while testing these on the 10 hour flight to Taipei for Computex.
However, the audio quality is utterly sublime. I simply haven’t heard better performers in anything in-ear. Ever. Absolutely stunning sound. Sony has set a new benchmark here.
So, these are fantastic for out and about music, but a poor choice for air travellers. While expensive, note that you can pick up these for at least $100 less if you shop around.
