HyperX should stop naming headsets after guns

Wewere big fans of the original Cloud Revolver headset. The stereo performance of that headset is beautifully clear, it’s comfortable and looks great. The only major downfall of that headset is the fact that the metal headband rings like a bell when bumped or moved. HyperX has redesigned the Revolver in a number of ways, some small and others substantial when it comes to the new S model. The earcups are matte now instead of shiny, and some rubber baffling stops the headband from righting like a bell. It just thumps loudly now. Thanks god for small mercies, huh? The biggest change is the addition of a USB Dolby Headphone dongle.

Stereo performance of the Revolver S is just as good as it was in the previous model, with a good flat EQ (this can be changes for bass performance or chat if desired) , but the Dolby Headphone virtual 7.1 is where the headset really shines. Much like the earlier Cloud headsets, the virtual surround performance is excellent with clear directionality and a wide, spacious soundscape. The detachable microphone is decent but not Earth-shattering, delivering clear but unremarkable voice for gaming and chat.

The Revolver S is an excellent headset, have no doubt about that, but HyperX has done such a good job over the years making headsets that they are their own worst competitor – the Cloud II is an excellent headset offering many of the same features and can be found for around $100.
