Rising star emerges
Tiger Tara’s trainer says he’s the real deal for the Inter Dominion
TIGER Tara lived up to his trainer’s expectations by flogging the field in last Thursday’s Renshaw Cup at Penrith Paceway and now he’ll be aimed at the Inter Dominion in Perth later in the year.
Following two easy leadup wins in the previous seven days, Tiger Tara started from the back row in the Renshaw Cup, but quickly rounded the field before taking the lead in the back straight. At the home turn he sprinted clear and won in a canter to break Smolda’s 2525m track record by 1.5 seconds in the 26.5m win.
The fact that Smolda was the 2016 Inter Dominion winner has given trainer Kevin Pizzuto even more confidence about Tiger Tara’s chances in the big race later in the year.
“He’ll break a lot more horses’ hearts racing like that,” Pizzuto said.
“I’ve already smashed him at 100/1 for the Inter Dominion.”
Tiger Tara was $21 chance on Sportsbet not long after his Renshaw Cup win and Pizzuto said he’s the real deal. “He did all the work to break that record. He didn’t just suck back in behind them,” he said.
Tiger Tara will have two more runs then he’ll go for a spell before he’s aimed at the Inter Dominion.
