Performance Vauxhall - - NEWSFEED -

As a rule Vauxhall is a rather conservative brand. VXR models aside, the cars that make up the bulk of their sales are largely mundane. Capable, and great cars, but not exactly pulse-racing material. But every now and then they go a little bit nutty! The Monaro, VXR8 and Maloo are prime examples of this – when the Vauxhall top- brass, presumably after a couple of lunchtime shandies, decide “ah sod it” and release something with more power than the Millennium Falcon, just because they can.

This, new for 2016, Maloo LSA is a perfect example of this. The outgoing Maloo had a non-too shy 426bhp, but the new LSA boasts a knee-trembling 529bhp, with a staggering 495lb/ft of torque! These heady figures are enough to rocket the Maloo from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, while also being capable of lugging half a tonne in its load area.

The 6.2V8 is based on the Camaro ZL1 engine with a few tweaks here and there – and boasts an Eaton 4-lobe supercharger, chargecooler and a high-flow exhaust system with bi-modal exhaust function (quietish when cruising, and not so quietish when you’re ‘in a hurry’). In line with the extra performance, spring and damper rates have been stiffened and new rear suspension delivers improved rear stiffness and braking efficiency. Manual models get launch control, and all models get an LSD which will come in handy.

The exterior has been at the receiving end of a host of changes too, as has the interior which gets
