ASTRA G GSi
As mentioned in the earlier part of this feature, Charlotte Morrish’s 359bhp Astra GSi did well in the top speed stakes with her boyfriend, Matthew Buckman, at the wheel, but both petrolheads were surprised to see the car register a 0-60mph sprint time of just 4.92 seconds. “I thought I’d be lucky to scrape five seconds!” smiles Matthew. “Drag racing is very hard on a car, and Charlotte’s GSi is configured for circuit work, meaning we’re really pleased with how well it performed along the standing mile.” Featuring coilovers, RnD Motorsport top mounts, solid subframe bushes, KSport eightpiston front brakes, Vectra VXR rears, forged pistons and rods, a dBilas inlet manifold and a K06 turbocharger, the car retains many of its creature comforts, including rare dual zone electronic climate control and sat nav. “The interior is semi-stripped,” says Charlotte. “I’ve bought Corbeau buckets and safety belts, which are attached to a harness bar made by Matthew, but I’ve been keen to retain the car’s ability to perform comfortably on the road as well as aggressively at the racing circuit,” she adds.
